I saw a quote by Voddie Baucham Jr. the other day that I thought was quite accurate to this generation.
“The modern church is producing passionate people filled with empty heads who love the Jesus they don’t know very well.”
Voddie Bacham Jr.
It saddens me to see preachers and leaders care only about the It It saddens me to see preachers and leaders care about their public image than people’s souls.
Unfortunately, churches today aren’t gathering for God but rather aUnfortunately, churches today aren’t gathering for God but rather a social gathering. Churches today are all about entertainment, putting up a show, a spectacle. We’re not known for our prayer life or diligent studies.
We think that worship is picking which song we like and how it makes us feel.
Sermons today is about self help, motivational pep talks and temporal things. There’s not a lot of dying to self for Christ, upholding the truth/word, and living for the world to come.
Everything about this generation is lukewarm. In the book of Revelation 3:14-17 it speaks to the lukewarm church of Laodicea that they are neither hot or cold. They’re rich but really have nothing and God will spit us out.
15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
Revelation 3:14-17
- How many of us are lukewarm?
- How many of us are zealous for His Kingdom?
- How many of us even know Him or what his Kingdom looks like?
I find my self sliding back into the dark abyss of vain and meaningless tasks. My close circle of influence steered me to an empty path in which the journey is long and goes no where.
- What do you guys think?
- Does this describe you and your church?
- Are you lukewarm with no zeal; don’t care if it’s left or right?
Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
Matthew 13:7
There’s good news for you and I as it continues in Revelation 3:18-21.
18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. 21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Revelation 3:18-21
There’s still hope for us. There’s still time for you and I to turn back and go the straight path. Let us buy gold refined by fire and be clothed in white. Let me leave you with this one last verse by the apostle Matthew.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:33-34
